FORMER managing director Brian Ashby continues to sponsor the well-supported Ouzledale Am Am competition his company established at Ghyll over 20 years ago.
The team of 'JR, Puff and Stuff' combining the families Riley –J onathan and Josh - and Mortimer – Steve Major and Minor - returned 110 points to take the honours by two points from 'Silentnight Beds' – Peter Beresford, Carl Hillary, Andrew Melville, and Tony Turner.

Theyedged out last year's winners, Tom and Ainsley Ashby, Marcus Sims and Glen Smith, in a card play-off.

'Accrington Clarets' – Geoff and Gaz Whitfield, and Barry Oliver - had to resort to using Mark Clarke, a Rovers' supporter to win the 19th hole prize, while 'Lost Balls' in the form of John Blackmore, Trevor and Tony Kegg, and S. Walker won the yellow ball prize. A

insley Ashby was nearest the pin in two on 'The Barn Hole', while Mortimer Minor was nearest the pin on 'Curlew's Cry'.

Ghyll Captain, Bob Presland, entertained 33 fellow members on the club trip to Otley GC on Friday.

Despite sustaining a metacarpal injury getting on to the coach, he bravely led his team of Craig Lemon and Norman Shapland into second place behind the victorious trio of Tom Ashby, Jonathan Riley and Mark Hargreaves in the 9-hole team event.

Steve S Mortimer shot 36 points in the 18-hole stableford event to push his father, Steve R Mortimer, into second place one point back. Phil Wilkinson (35 pts) took third prize on the card from Mick Parkins and Craig Lemon respectively.
