DENIS Greenup was top man at Clitheroe Golf Club last week.
The popular two-handicap golfer admits he is playing the best golf of his life and has never struck the ball better.
The Sir Michael Bonallack Open Senior Singles Trophy is now a well supported annual event, Sir Michael being an honorary member of the Clitheroe club.

Greenup matched standard scratch on the day and his gross 73 gave him the Claret Jug and first prize.

Tom Brown, a one-handicap competitor from Stand, produced a gross 75 for second place, two shots clear of third placed R. Mather from Ellesmere.

The nett trophy went to Ulverston's J. Cokalay, who had a three-shot advantage over Clitheroe club captain Andrew Walmsley with his nett 68.

Whalley's John Jobes took third with a nett 72, and Clitheroe's Peter Dawson took home an age group prize with a creditable 82-8-74.

Greenup returned an impressive 75 gross to take the F. H. Long Trophy for the Seniors Championship, with Mike Gibson just one shot off the pace, his 76 giving him second place.

Dean Brackenbury continues to figure on the leader board, and his 78-10-68 won him the Seniors Rosebowl.

Peter Dawson posted a 78-8-70 to take second place and leave Philip Cort in third just one shot behind.

The age category prizes – in no particular order – went to Bill Birch, Dave Finney, John Holt and Chris Eddleston.

Summer arrived for Saturday's Medal. And the conditions suited Derek Marsh as his nett 69 snatched top spot from scratch-man Mark Ashworth, courtesy of a card play-off. Ashworth had a flawless round for his 69, but he had to settle for second.

The steady David Foster took third in Division One with a solid 80-10-70. Division Two went to Jonathan Sheasby with a nett 68, two shots to the good over Mark Jeffrey, and Dave Kitson took third.
