CLITHEROE golfer David Knowles is from a family with an eye for a ball and he proved no exception when he produced the best nett score of the day in Clitheroe Golf Club's Medal on the Blue Course.
A strong finish with two pars and two birdies saw Knowles take Division Two with his nett 70.

Norman Fielding was three shots away to claim second with a four-shot magin over a trio on 77.

Dave Chippendale edged Alan Houghton and Paul Byrom out of third place after cards.

Two three-handicap men had a head-to-head in Division One but Miles Wade took the prize with his 75-3-72 return.

Tony Flanagan had a shakey 7, 6 start but recovered to finish with a creditable nett 73 for second place.

Young Tom Forrest is mixing it with the big boys now and his nett 73 earned him a mention in fourth place just behind Dean Braithwaite and ahead of Simon Hale in fifth, all with the same score.

The Tradesmams Trophy is a season-long qualifying event and the finalists competed for the Trophy on Saturday in welcome summer weather.

Steve Credie was on song with two twos in his nett 66.

This gave him a confortable five-shot margin over second-placed Geoff Sutcliffe.

Simon Raine took third prize with a steady 84-11-73, one shot better than four competitors on 74.

A card play-off saw John Barber claim fourth place ahead of Barry Thomas, Paul Connolly and Tim Stanley.

Derrick Eglin won the Asheton Cup for past Captains and Presidents for the fifth time.

Eglin's 38 points ensured he takes silverware to Spain.
Jim Rhodes claims he lost it on the18th so had to settle for the runners-up spot with 37 points, just one shot ahead of captain Andrew Walmsley who attended as guest and presented the prizes.
