Chairman's event netts £5,000 for charity

Newly-elected Stonyhurst Park Golf CLub chairman Alan Talbot will be able to present over £5,000 to his three chosen charities - Hearing Dogs for the Deaf, Mayfield School and The Lancashire Fund( British Legion)- after a successful golfing weekend.
On Friday the corporate event was contested by 26 business teams from the North West in bright sunshine.

Clear winners were the RG Garden Maintenance team of MD Ross Hibbert, Nik White, Paul Thomasson and Graham Smith with 88 points.

Local hotels Northcote Manor comprising Andy Morris, Andy Heason, John Kirk and Neil Duckworth and The Shireburn Arms with mine host Steve Alcock joined by John Whowell, Geoff Sutcliffe and Simon Hale were second and third with 80 and 78 points respectively.

Fourth place went to the Castle Cement team of Gary Young, John Blockeel, Chris Murray and Steven Turner.

Sunday's rain almost closed the course, but club stalwart Dougie Boreham's nett 66 claimed victory in the men's Chairman's Chalice event after a card play-off with William Walne and Steve Clash.

Henry Farrar won the Category Two prize with nett 68 with Neil Brown, longest drive, and Ian Carrington, nearest the pin, completing the winner's rostrum.
