NELSON Golf Club captain Stewart King enjoyed a packed Captain's Weekend with four competitions.
Lady members set the ball rolling on Thursday when Margaret Harrison (40, lady vice-captain Stella Newton and Janice Varley (36) were the main prizewinners and Tracey Sanderson won the nine-hole stableford.

The excellent state of the Marsden Heights course was highlighted on Friday when a three-way card play-off was needed on nett 63s to determine the winner of the junior event.

The nod eventually went to Ben Woodhead (91-28-63) ahead of Tom Boyd (87-24-63) and in-form Charlie Ellis (72-9-63).

Chris Eustace (54-19-35) won the nine-holer for younger members ahead of Matthew Halstead (58-21-37) and Hannah Short (68-27-41).

Saturday's main event, the Captain's Day Fourball, attracted almost 180 golfers.

And Michael Dingwall partnered Paul Duerden to 47 points and first place.

That score saw them home by a point from James Jennings and Terry Robbins jnr who in turn finished a point clear of John Dinsdale and Ray Waterworth.

Alex Rickwood and Colin "Monty" Wright (44) took fourth place after a card play-off with Michael and Simon Hodgkinson, the latter winning the long-drive prize on the 18th hole.

Nearest-the-pin prizes went to Neil Whittle, David Rigby, Ian Short and Ian Cock.

The following day saw the Captain's Mixed with John and Elizabeth Dinsdale scoring 46 points to win by two from Ray and Marie Waterworth. Third place went to Keith Beeston and Kath Gradwell (43) and there were spot prizes for L. Edwards, Paul Thomason, Terry Birtwistle, Shaun Field, Anne Salter, Cheryl King and Brian Swift.
