The biggest day in the Marsden Park Golf Club calendar took place on Saturday, with the course fantastically prepared with very tough pin positions to provide a stiff test for the members.
In-form Gareth Whitfield came through to win with an impressive score of 42 points.

In the 0-12 category, Russell Shaun took the honours with 39 points from Phil Smith (38) who beat Stuart Buckley into third place on the card.

In the 13-18 category, it was Gary Tonge who pushed the winner hardest and won the category with 41 points from Lloyd Bridge, who was leading at one stage, and Nick Steer took third place.

And the 19-28 category was a tight affair with Charlie Shingadia beating David Beckett into second place on the card, James Middleton was third with 35 points.

Other prizes were: best front nine, Ian Davison, best back nine, Andrew Birtwistle, nearest the pin on the second, Anthony Harwood and nearest the pin in two on the 13th, John Ormerod.

Again, the ladies' competition provided a tight finish with Margaret Frankland finally winning with 34 points from Ann Wardley in second, and Angela Frankland, landing her first-ever prize by finishing third.
Other prizes were: longest drive, Julie Hargreaves and nearest the pin, Pauline Greenwood.

An excellent day's golf was followed by a barbecue, provided by the captains Graham Hartley and Dawn Shaw for all the members, followed by a cabaret evening which attracted the most guests ever seen at a Marsden Park function.
