Berry wins Captain's Weekend

The Captain's Weekend at Mytton Fold saw a full two days of intensive competition on the Langho course.
Golfers enjoyed the opportunity of two one-day events and a combined overall format providing for all categories of the club's membership.

Saturday saw a hole-in-one by Mark Davidson on the 221 yard 18th, whilst on Sunday, 27-handicapper John Welch scored an eagle two on the 411 yard 14th!

Day One was headed by Matthew Walsh with an exceptional 84-19-65, two clear of Peter Tomlinson's 74-7-67. A further three shots further back was John Berry (80-10-70) followed closely by Gareth Sutcliffe's 89-18-71. Division One winner Chris Chadwick came in with 77-5-72 and John Kwasnewski took Division Two with 89-17-72.

Day Two saw John Berry move up the leaderboard, taking first overall with a nett 67, beating Chris Hughes (87-20-67) on a card play-off. Third and fourth were equally close with Frank Tunstall (80-12-68) just heading Gary Ashton (85-17-68). Division One was taken by Wayne Ivinson (78-9-69) and Division Two by Saturday's hole-in-one star, Mark Davidson (81-12-69).

The Sunday Ladies competition was won by Maureen Board with 39 points, two clear of Patricia Leyland, with Abbie Clegg just one point further back. The Junior competition was won by Harry Crossley.

The two-day combined event saw John Berry (137) take overall honours, three strokes clear of Peter Tomlinson (140) in second, Matthew Walsh, also on 140 nett, finishing in third with a consistent Gareth Sutcliffe on 141 in fourth place.

Keith Gill took Division One with 142 and Gary Ashton (143) taking Division Two. Mick Walsh scooped the Seniors section with 142.
