Sunday saw the final of the club championship at Marsden Park Golf Club where over 50 members witnessed an awesome display of matchplay golf from the winner, 21-year-old Adam Fothergill.
Fothergill beat former club champion Trevor Dickinson 4 and 3 collecting five birdies en route including a superb chip in for a two on the par-three, seventh hole.
At one time he was 5-up but a typically battling performance by Dickinson (58) showed he was not a former champion for nothing, reducing the deficit to three by the turn.
Fothergill however, kept his nerve and continued to play excellent golf clinching the title on the 15th hole.
Fothergill was also in winning form the previous day. He partnered Andrew Birtwistle to success in the club fourball with a nett 61 – winning on a card play-off from Brian Lord and Nick Steer. In third place were club captain Graham Hartley and John Ellison who returned a nett 62.
Ladies competed for the Wheels 4 Go Trophy and in a bogey competition Jane McGregor came out on top in front of Janet Kelly , Julie Alderson and Karen Wilkinson.
The Pendle Leisure Trust is accepting entries for two open events at Marsden Park.
The Municipal Trophy is to be played on Sunday, August 10th, with prizes for the overall winner, divisional winners, best gross and three ladies' prizes.
That is followed on Sunday, August 24th, by the Memorial Trophy, a medal competition with prizes in three divisions and ladies' prizes.
Entries for both those events cost £13 including the twos sweep. Further details can be obtained by ringing the golf shop on 661912.
