VIDEO: Burnley hosts Star Wars convention

Waiting for Video...

THE evil Galactic Empire descended on Burnley when the town hosted its ever popular Star Wars convention.

Devoted fans of the hit movie franchise packed in to Turf Moor to catch a glimpse and photograph with some of the stars of Star Wars.

The biggest, in more ways than one, was there too – 6ft.6in. David Prowse, the man behind the mask of Darth Vader, probably the most iconic movie baddie of all time.

This year also saw the visit of Kenny Baker, who played the lovable droid R2-D2 in all six films.

Speaking to the Express, David Prowse said: “This is my second visit to Burnley, but this is the busiest I’ve seen it.

“It’s wonderful to see so many fans, many of whom were not even born when the original films came out. I still travel around the world going to conventions and I’ve just released my autobiography. I’ve also recently had an operation my knee and hip so I really am bionic now!”

Fans travelled from around the country to catch a glimpse of their heroes. One fan, Patrick Daychild (19) from Runcorn even professed to being a member of the Church of the Jedi.

He said: “Jediism is the fourth biggest religion in the UK. My Jedi name is Chi-pa Amshe.”

Other actors from the cult films included Paul Blake who played Greedo, and Barrie Holland who played Lt. Renz.
