A TALENTED performer is pirouetting her way towards her dreams, after bagging a scholarship at a prestigious dance school.

Naomi Embury (11), a pupil at Padiham Primary School, has been attending ballet classes at the East Lancs School of Dancing since she was two. She also trains at a Royal Ballet centre, Manchester.

Now, after hard work and dedication, she has earned a place at the Elmhurst School for Dance, which has links with the Birmingham Royal Ballet.

She will be based in Bristol Road, Birmingham, where she hopes extensive training will be the key to a dance career.

Naomi, who is currently in Grade Five with the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing and inter-foundation with the Royal Academy of Dance, said: “I am dead excited to go.

“There was this girl from my dance school and she went to audition for schools, so I tried out at this audition, and they accepted me. I will obviously miss my family, but I am really excited.”

As well as getting into Elmhurst, Naomi was offered a place at Arts Educational Schools London, and was one of three to be shortlisted for the Royal Ballet School.

She will fly the nest in September, leaving mum Julie Embury feeling proud and a little sad.

Mum-of-three Julie (52) said: “Instead of going to St Christopher’s High School to start secondary school, Naomi auditioned for dance schools.

“She’s over-the-moon to have been given the scholarship.

“Naomi is at dance schools most evenings, so it is really her life.

“She’s my baby, and is the last one at home, so there are mixed emotions really.”

And Claire Slater, who has been teaching Naomi at ELSD for seven years, said: “Naomi has done incredibly well. She was one of just 12 girls to be accepted into the school.

“She’s a very dedicated student. She works hard all the time, and she really wants it.

“She is a good all-round dancer as well. Naomi doesn’t just excel in ballet, she’s good at everything like modern and tap as well.

“She regularly enters competitions, and always does well in them.”
