Community choir in Burnley needs more women!
A local choir needs more women after a recent surge in membership attracted mostly men!
The Clarion Community Choir is a mixed group of men and women of all ages and backgrounds who have been singing together for 15 years. “But we now need more women” says spokesman Barbara Sanders.
“We are an open access choir (no musical knowledge required) and regularly have about 20 people at our weekly singing sessions but, in the last couple of years, have had a surge of men joining, so we now need more women.”.
The choir is led by leaders from the Natural Voice Network who are skilled at involving people – even those who have been told they cannot sing.
“We sing songs from around the world that are easy to learn by ear, and that are about communities of people who live, play or work together peacefully,” she said. “We participate in a range of community events and our own events about bringing people together to learn and appreciate songs from different cultures. We also participate in regional and national singing festivals such as The National Street Choir Festival.”
