A BURNLEY fashion designer who created a dress to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee could see her garment worn by royalty.

Carrie-Ann Kay made the Great Britain-inspired piece to mark the year of the Diamond Jubilee and 2012 Olympics.

But the concept has caught the eye of Prince Charles, who is set to hand the dress to Kate Middleton.

The Duchess of Cambridge is seen as an international style icon, and Carrie-Ann was thrilled that she could be wearing the design which features some iconic British images including red buses, Big Ben and London cabs.

The ARTisan Boutique owner originally donated the dress to the Mayor’s Charity Appeal, but hopes are that the garment will fetch even more money for Pendleside Hospice with the royal seal of approval.

Carrie-Ann, who created six Jubilee dresses in total, said: “If Kate Middleton does wear the dress then it will cost an absolute fortune.

“I would never have imagined that the dress would be sent off to her.

“I could tell my grandchildren that I have dressed royalty. It is fantastic.”

She explained Burnley MP Gordon Birtwistle and his wife Kathleen, who is an avid supporter of the ARTisan Boutique, spotted the dress and got in touch with Prince Charles.

The Prince, who met Carrie-Ann on a visit to Burnley, was keen to get involved with the fund-raising effort, and the dress was sent off to his official royal residence Clarence House.

Carrie-Ann said: “When it first came about, I thought we would not hear anything back.

“Gordon told Prince Charles about me, and how we had met once at Burnley College.

“He said the Prince was very excited about it ,because he loves Burnley very much, and he wants to help raise money.”

“I have been slogging away doing my label for 10 years. I keep thinking something big has to happen. This might just be that big thing.”
