Autumn is traditionally the time for big roach, and there was a raft of huge fish coming to the net last week.

Twenty two-year-old Ryan Hayden banked a personal best roach of 2lb 14oz from the Hampshire Avon - ledgered bread flake was its downfall.

Also a nice net of red fins was taken by Alistair Ogilvie on the River Trent, he had an eye-catching 52lb 12oz haul taken on the tidal stretch at Dunham.

Also worth mentioning is a double figure barbel taken from a tiny 18ins deep river in Nottinghamshire.

Chris Long, who has been fishing this river for years, says it is only 8ft wide and 18ins deep, and he was taking chub of up to 5lb, but the barbel was a great surprise.

On going back again, Chris spotted up to 20 large barbel and will be fishing for them soon.

Don’t forget the AGM of Pendle, Burnley and District in November - all proposals in to Mack’s Tackle by the end of the month please.
