THERE were “likes” all round for Facebook group Burnley Past and Present which has raised £4,000 for charity and attracted 2,000 members in its first year.
Set up by friends Jack Nadin and Christine Penrose, the page allows people to share photos and memories of Burnley with other group members.
It has now raised £4,062 for Pendleside Hospice in memory of Jack’s late wife Rita. Online donations started the fund-raising before Christine raised £2,000 by completing a sponsored tandem skydive.
Members Tracey Simpson, Stephanie Mottershead, Sarah Makinson, Dawn Robinson, Elsie Manning, Kath Collinge and Irene Jacques completed the hospice’s Pendle Witch Walk and raised money on the day.
And to end 2012 with a bang, brave members bared all to compile a “naked” calendar, which can be bought for £7 from the hospice reception or from Stephanie on 07503461283.
Stephanie said: “Raising £4,000 this year has been amazing, but we are hoping to better that amount next year. We have many more exciting ideas for the New Year and have already planned a sponsored men’s waxing event, some of the members are taking part in the Midnight Walk on June 7th and another bare all calendar is being planned. It is thanks to the fantastic members of Burnley Past and Present who have made the group what it is.”
