A Cumbrian teenager who punched a schoolboy in the face has been sent home to his mother after she told a court she would keep him out of trouble.
Thomas Hodgson's mother told a judge at Carlisle Crown Court that she had already moved to Carlisle to get him away from the bad influence of friends he had when they lived in Penrith.

Hodgson, who had previous convictions for assault and affray, pleaded guilty to causing actual bodily harm to a 16-year-old, who was drunk when he knocked him down some steps in Penrith and broke his arm.

He was put under supervision for a year, ordered to do 100 hours unpaid community work and told to abide by an 8pm to 8am curfew for the next four months.
