BELVEDERE extended their lead at the top of the Ribblesdale League First Division after a straightforward 155-run win over lowly Whalley.
The Ribble Valley visitors won the toss and decided to field, and progress was slow after weeks of incessant rain, with Paul Garaghty and Dan Young watchful.

Eventually Young's attacking instincts saw him castled by Burgess for 15.

Ajmal Choudry joined Garaghty, and the pair took the score past 100 before the former Nelson man's first shot in the air resulted in his dismissal for 35.

Choudry soon followed for his second successive 50.

John Waite was his usual bright and breezy self, his 18 coming off 12 balls, Alistair Quinn's 27 not out included three sixes, and Nathan Flynn's unbeaten 18 add valuable runs as the locals closed on 193-6.

Whalley were soon in trouble at 1-3 as Chris Hodgson (2-8) and Mick Ennis (1-10) made early inroads into the batting.

Burgess and Lloyd put on 28, but James Young (4-10) and Choudry (3-6) ran through the batting with just 38 on the board.

The seconds need to add discipline in their batting if games are to be won.

Nawaz (22) and Joe Martin (10) helped get the score to 47-2, but a series of rash shots saw them collapse to 65 all out at Settle.

Dave Perry was the only other batsman to trouble the scorers, and although Abdul Haleem took 3-12, it was not enough to stop them slumping to a six-wicket defeat.
