Fitting tribute to supporter Arthur

FOR more than 70 years, Arthur Metcalfe enjoyed the many highs of watching Nelson become the most successful club in Lancashire Cricket League history.
Sadly he died early in the 2007 season.
And his son Derek, for almost two decades the Leader-Times correspondent at Seedhill as well as club historian, decided to fund a lasting memorial.
On Sunday the first league game to be played with the Arthur Metcalfe Scoreboard in action saw the team shatter many long-standing records.
The electronic scoreboard transmits instant information to spectators and has already been very well received.
Derek Metcalfe spoke of the new addition to Seedhill by saying: "We wanted to do something special in my father's memory.
"He enjoyed watching cricket at Nelson for more than 70 years and we wanted to do something more than just an inscribed bench.
"As a club we had spoken about getting an electronic scoreboard in the past, but the finance was never in place.
"But as a family we are delighted to have been able to come up with something that I know he would have appreciated."
Installing the new scoreboard was a major task and would not have been possible without the help mof Clough Plant Hire of Colne and John Connelly Construction.
