SUNDAY sees the start of a prolonged battle between Burnley and Lowerhouse.
The two sides renew hostilities for the first time this season at Turf Moor in the Sponsorbank Lancashire League.

And the meeting is the first of three between the two clubs in three weeks.

Following Sunday's league match-up, the two sides meet again – at the same venue – in the last eight of the Worsley Cup tomorrow week.

And following that, they lock horns again at the West End on June 13th in the Lancashire League Twenty/20 competition.

And by the time they meet at Liverpool Road, both sides will be hoping their league form has taken a turn for the better.

The pair have recorded just three league wins between them to date, with Jon Finch's side currently propping up the rest.

However, last weekend's Get Solutions Worsley Cup first round may just have been the moment when things improved for both parties.

While Burnley outplayed league leaders Nelson on their own patch, Lowerhouse gave a commanding display with both bat and ball at Colne.

And anyone coming away from either Seedhill or the Horsfield will have wondered why that form hasn't been present since the word go.

Sunday's meeting at Turf Moor (wickets pitched 1-15 p.m.) is the only game of the weekend for both parties.

However, there is a double header in the Veka Ribblesdale League, where Padiham will look to build on their record-breaking outing in the Ramsbottom Cup.

The Arbories outfit travel to bottom side Earby tomorrow, before hosting Cherry Tree on Sunday, while Read host Blackburn Northern tomorrow, before a trip to Clitheroe (wickets pitched 1-30 p.m.).

On the international scene, James Anderson will look to build on his five wickets in the first Test with New Zealand when the two sides do battle again tomorrow.

The two sides meet for the second installment in the three-match series at Old Trafford, with the "Burnley Express" out to build on his 5-130 match figures at Lord's.

Meanwhile, Jonathan Clare is set for a busy few days at county level in the Friends Provident Trophy.

His Derbyshire side were due to take on Lancashire at the County Ground yesterday afternoon, the first of four matches in six days.

A home game with Yorkshire on Sunday is followed by a trip to the North East to take on Durham on Bank Holiday Monday.

They complete a packed programme with an away game at Scotland on Wednesday, and Clare will be hoping to propel his side to a top-two spot and a place in the quarter-finals.
