WHALLEY replaced Clitheroe at the bottom of the Ribblesdale League table as the visitors took the derby spoils at Station Road on Saturday.
Young Jack Dewhurst played a starring role for Clitheroe as he took 1-13 off six overs - his wicket being that of Whalley professional Vinit Indulkar for 18 - before smashing an unbeaten 75 off 103 balls to seal a nine-wicket romp.
Whalley won the
toss and chose to bat, and they made a solid start before Dewhurst removed the Indian paid man with the score at 43.
Opener Martin Davies kept things ticking along nicely, however, as he and Lee Kearsley moved the score onto 109.
Daniel Turner had Kearsley caught for 39, and things went horribly wrong for Whalley as they lost another five wickets for just 42 runs.
Davies was fourth man out at 139, having compiled a superb 60 off 112 balls, including five fours and a six, and the innings closed on 151-7 off 45 overs.
Ben Dowling finished with 2-29 off 10, while Josh Marquet claimed 2-35 off 17.
Clitheroe made light work of knocking off the target, as they cruised to victory inside 34 overs.
Professional Paul Turner and Dewhurst were clearly in a hurry as they blitzed the home attack to all parts in a magnificent partnership worth 150.
They looked like leading Clitheroe to victory single-handedly, but two runs short, former East Lancashire batsman Turner handed Mark Fallon a catch off Gregory Jones on 63.
Josh McDowell saw Clitheroe over the line with an unbeaten two, leaving Dewhurst undefeated on 75, after eight fours and one maximum hit.
Whalley are at Cherry Tree on Saturday.
