A HALF-century from Jonathan Clare wasn't enough to see Derbyshire to LV County Championship success.
Clare hit a run-a-ball knock of 57 in his sides' second innings, to set Middlesex a target of 255 for victory.

But the home side knocked off the required runs in just over 60 overs, to record a six-wicket win at Lord's.

Having been dimissed for a five-ball duck in the first innings, as Derbyshire were all out for 244, Clare responded by taking 2-78 as Middlesex earned an 18-run lead at the halfway stage.

That included removinng dangerous opener Ed Smith lbw for 20, as well as former Rishton professional Vernon Philander for two.

Derbyshire were somewhat in trouble at 91-5 in their second innings, but Clare top-scored with a destructive display, hitting eight fours to record yet another county half-century.

However, it wasn't enough, as Middlesex roared to victory in this Second Division clash.
