2008 cricket preview - Clitheroe put store in cup run

NEIL Bolton has agreed to take charge of Clitheroe Cricket Club for one final season before retiring from playing in September.
He can't see anyone getting past Baxenden and Settle in the league this time out, but believes his young side can have a good run in the Ramsbottom and Twenty/20 Cups.
The veteran batsman has retaken the captaincy, replacing Simon Coulter, feeling free to enjoy the position to the full one last time.
"Due to a change in my working hours this year, I'll be able to do all the extra jobs that come with the position," said Bolton.
"It will be good to have a full season without having to do shifts before and after games, as there is nothing worse than not being able to join the lads in the bar when you've got to go to work.
"I'll be retiring from the commitment at the end of the season, as I'll only be guaranteed to play two weeks in every six unless I use my annual holidays, and after 20 seasons I'm not prepared to do that anymore."
Josh Marquet has left the club to return to grade cricket in Australia, and while the return of seam bowler Michael Houldsworth to the area after a 10-year absence should soften the blow, Bolton is looking to the burgeoning youth in the side.
He said: "Batting-wise I believe we're a match for anyone, the challenge for us will be bowling
"Michael is the brother-in-law of Josh, and probably the quickest seam bowler we have. It's a massive blow losing Josh as we haven't got that true strike bowler, but I'll be juggling it around to get the best out of them.
"I'll be asking for a bit more from young Jack Dewhurst and 14-year-old Tim LeBreton, who looks a fantastic prospect.
"He's come on tremendously since he's been at a spin academy at Lancashire CCC, practicing two nights a week throughout the winter. Tim may not play every game, but he will have a part to play."
Opening batsman, and possible wicket keeper, Nick James, who is a member of the Leeds/Bradford University Centre of Cricketing Excellence squad, will also be joining the side from the Cheshire League, but his availabilty may be limited when Clitheroe start the season at Padiham on Saturday.
