VIDEO: Charlie Austin wonderstrike celebrated by Ugandan Clarets

Waiting for Video...

WHEN Charlie Austin’s wonderstrike hit the net in the Clarets’ win at Charlton you could hear the cheers as far away as Africa.

A jubilant groups of Burnley fans were jumping with joy in Uganda as the hotshot striker ended his goal drought in emphatic fashion in the Clarets 1-0 win at The Valley.

The child mothers of Gulu were celebrating the team’s win in the famous claret and blue strips of Burnley which were donated by Burnley FC’s Programme for Education, Sport and Society.

The women, who were forced to flee their homes like millions of others during conflict in the former war-torn country, have their own football team and play in the replica kits.

They are now firm fans of the Clarets along with hundreds of other youngsters in Uganda who have benefitted from links with Burnley Football Club.

Four football coaches from the town flew out to the region last month to work with the Ugandan Kids League which gives young people chance to improve their lives through sports and recreation.

Their venture followed a similar project last year when former St Leonard’s headteacher Julie Bradley and Wellfield headteacher Dawn Forshaw went to Uganda to spread the work of Burnley’s pioneering Pop Up Farm project and deliver Burnley kits to local children.
