Plans for 117 new homes in Rosegrove

A MAJOR housing development including 64 houses and 53 apartments could be built in Rosegrove.

Fresh permission has been granted for the mix of townhouses and apartment block on the site of the former Waterside Mill in Langham Street.

Permission was originally given in January 2010 but for economic reasons the development has not yet been started and new permission was sought from Burnley Borough Council’s Development Control Committee.

Glen Dimplex Home Appliances Ltd, based in Merseyside, made the application.

Described as “a high quality residential development” the scheme would see 24 three-bedroom and 40 four-bedroom townhouses built. The apartment block would comprise 13 one-bedroom, 30 two-bedroom and 10 three-bedroom apartments.

The development would border the Leeds Liverpool Canal facing Langham Street and Havelock Street. It would also create a sports pavilion, ecology park, children’s play area and landscaping.

The former industrial buildings on the site have now been demolished.

An agreement to introduce traffic-calming measures, a one-way traffic flow and waiting restrictions has been made in response to concerns over access from Langham Street and Havelock Street.

In the previous application, the Highways Authority proposed a 20mph zone to include Langham Street, Havelock Street and part of Lockyer Avenue.

A contribution was also requested from developers to provide improvements to cycleways at the site.
