Calling all kids - we have teamed up with Burnley Council’s Sport and Play Development Unit to encourage you to be active and have a great time enjoying sports and games, regardless of your ability.
And we have some fantastic prizes up for grabs!
In the year of the London 2012 Olympics, what better time to have a go and try something new and at St Peter’s Leisure Centre, Burnley, they have a fantastic programme of fun holiday activities for you to get into.
To get into the swing of things, we want children to draw or paint a picture of themselves playing their favourite sport, or one they would like to have a go at.
So it could be anything from playing football to swimming, hula hoop to gymnastics, or even snowboarding or scuba diving!
The top entries will be featured in the Burnley Express and the sender of the winning picture will win a super mountain bike, a free week’s pass to enjoy all the fantastic holiday activities at St Peter’s Leisure Centre this summer, plus a fabulous day out with their friends at Camelot!
How to Enter:
Draw or paint a picture of yourself playing your favourite sport or a sport you would like to try. Drawings should be on a piece of A4 paper (portrait) and have your name, age, address and the name of your school on the reverse. The competition is open to children up to the age of 12 years.
Send your entry to Sporty Kids, Burnley Express, c/o LEP, Olivers Place, Fulwood, Preston PR2 9ZA to arrive by Monday July 2. Standard Express rules apply. The top entries will be featured in paper and readers asked to vote for their favourite picture. Those receiving the most votes will go before our judges who will select the winner.

The team that brought you Splash, Shout and Scream and Shout holiday projects in Burnley are now delivering the Getin2 summer activities with a full day holiday club based within Burnley’s iconic facility St. Peter’s Leisure Centre. The team is fully CRB checked and consists of qualified and experienced sports coaches and play workers that have over to 40 years of experience between them.
With a busy summer of sport coming up with the Euros and Olympics, the team has lined up some interesting fun challenges to keep within the theme. The activities will be fun and enjoyable that will include a great variety to cater for all ages and interests such as multi-sports, arts and crafts, Nintendo Wii game challenges, dance mats, swimming and pool activities, snakes and lizards, roller disco, mountain biking, Zumbatronic, team quiz and mini Olympic challenges. Furthermore, participants attending will get the opportunity to go on trips to Welly Bob’s Farm, Ice Skating in Blackburn, Camelot Theme Park and ten pin bowling.
Getin2 summer activities will start on Monday 30th July until Friday 31st August 2012 for 5 full weeks. The programme of activities for the day will run from 9am until 4pm allowing for 1 hour supervised lunch time at the facility. It is important the children bring a packed lunch or spending money as there is a café located within St.Peter’s Leisure Centre.
Who’s it for?
The summer Getin2 activities are ideal for families who want to ensure their children are kept busy over the summer holiday period whilst they can continue to work. For children to experience new activities and challenges, make new friends and keep healthy and active over the summer break.
We offer a series of free activities that will run along side our pay as you play sessions.
Our pay as you play activities range from £2 for a 2 hour golf session to £60 for our 5 day holiday club that includes swimming everyday for the over 8s and day trips each week for the under 8s (discounts are available to families wishing to book more than one child onto the full day sessions
