BUNDLES of joy made the New Year celebrations extra special for two Burnley families who welcomed new arrivals on January 1st.

Samantha Waller (33), of Venice Avenue, gave birth to baby Maurita at 2-13am on New Year’s Day. Maurita, who weighed 9lb. 6oz., is the third child for Samantha, who also has sons Michael (17) and 11-year-old Oscar.

She arrived six days early and was born naturally after a seven-hour labour.

Samantha, who has named her daughter after her sister, said: “She was keen to get out. It was a shock. I’ve had a bad time with this pregnancy so I stayed at home on New Year’s Eve. It’s a good job I did.

“I’m really chuffed to have a baby girl.”

Also celebrating a new addition to their family were Natalie Wiseman and Barry Howes, of Bevington Close, Burnley.

Their daughter Felicity-Jo was born at 6-04am on New Years’ Day. Felicity-Jo, who weighed 7lb. 8oz., is a sister for the couple’s two-year-old daughter Padmé-Jayne.

Proud mum Natalie (26), who had a natural birth after four hours in labour, said: “Padmé loves her baby sister and Barry is over the moon. He’s really outnumbered now, with all girls in the house. Having Felicity-Jo was a brilliant start to the New Year.”

Both babies were born at the Lancashire Women and Newborn Centre at Burnley General Hospital.
