EXCITEMENT is continuing to build for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

To get into the spirit of the celebrations, Burnley residents are being invited to ring any kind of bell for three minutes.

The idea, labelled “Work No. 1197: All the bells in a country rung as quickly and as loudly as possible for three minutes at 8-12am on 27th July 2012”, is the brainwave of Turner Prize-winning artist and musician Martin Creed.

Anybody is welcome to take part, using anything from hand bells, to doorbells to tower bells.

Mr Creed said: “It’s by people and for people. On the morning of the opening of the games it’s a massive signal that something is happening.”

Thousands of people have already registered to take part and the performance has captured the imagination of many organisations and individuals, including The Royal Navy and the Royal Fleet Auxiliary, and The British Army,

To get involved all individuals, communities and organisations are encouraged to register at www.allthebells.com.

If you are from Burnley, and are hoping to take part in Mr Creed’s unique work then contact Rebecca Cohen on 01282 478158 or e-mail rebecca.cohen@jpress.co.uk.
