VOTERS have crowned a well-established Colne fish and chip shop as the best of its kind in Pendle and the surrounding areas.
Leung and Maureen Lee, owners of the Cemetery Chippy in Keighley Road, were thrilled to discover they had "battered" off stiff competition to win the 2BR competition.

After 15 years in the industry and four years at this outlet, the couple were delighted to have their efforts recognised.

Mrs Lee said: "We're really happy about winning. It's a lovely achievement and we're so grateful to the people who went to the effort of ringing up and voting for their favourite fish and chip shop.

"We couldn't believe it when we saw the big trophy. We were thinking we'd maybe get a certificate or something. We're still deciding where to display it, but have put it high up at the moment so everyone can see it when they come in."

The couple put their success down to the fact they try to cater for a diverse range of customers, offering vegetarian and Halal dishes as well as gluten free fish and chips.

The shop is also listed with the Sea Fish Authority, which has given it five stars for its food and a general four-star rating.

Mrs Lee added: "We try to cater for everyone, but in a competition like this, you always think someone will pip you to the post. We really must thank Les and Val, who used to own the shop but retired to Spain. I'm sure they will be pleased to see we're doing our utmost to continue with its success."
