A TRIP to California is in store for a lucky quartet from Farmhouse Fare following the Clitheroe-based pudding company "raisin the roof" at a trans-Atlantic awards ceremony.
The multi-award winning company scooped first place in this year's California Raisins Innovation Awards – in 2005 Farmhouse Fare was named runner-up.
Peter Meadows from the California Raisin Administrative Committee, which organises the awards, said
: "Our panel of five judges had a strict set of criteria and pretty much all of the Farmhouse Fare products smashed all the records for taste, consistency, innovation and, of course, the amount of raisins."
He added that the judges had particularly enjoyed the company's lemon meringue pudding.
The awards were established in 2004 to recognise innovative and imaginative use of Californian raisins in the food industry.
Made at the company's Lincoln Way site, Farmhouse Fare's range of puddings uses traditional recipes handed down through the generations.
l Farmhouse Fare is through to the finals of the UK's national "business Oscars" for the second year running.
It was last year's outright winner in the small-to-medium-sized business of the year category of the National Business Awards.
That was a huge coup for the high-flying local company, founded and run by Gisburn farmers' daughter Helen Colley, and now her company is through to the national finals again, competing in not one, but two categories. They are the AXA Small-to-Medium-Sized Business of the Year Award and the Credit Suisse Entrepreneur of the Year.
The 10 national finalists in each of the 12 competition categories must now prepare to make their presentations in person to a further panel of expert judges, including senior executives, academics and business specialists, later this month. The winners will receive their honours at a glittering gala dinner, hosted by BBC TV's Fiona Bruce, at London's Grosvenor House Hotel on Tuesday, November 7th.
