Pork pies impress Gary Rhodes
AN award-winning Burnley butcher gave judges food for thought with his pork pies.
Mr Stephen Berkins, who owns Berkins' Butchers, Rosegrove Lane, cooked up a storm at the Master Pork Pie Maker competition in Ripponden, West Yorkshire, and scooped an award and a merit.
The Burnley butcher's triumphant television appearance in the UKTV Food Local Hero Awards 2007 prompted the visit from food critics and led to an invitation to the competition.
Celebrity chef Gary Rhodes and Simon Rimmer, of UKTV Food, have also been impressed by the popular butcher's pork pies. Mr Berkins, who was the only butcher from Lancashire, said: "It is fantastic to be recognised once more."
