THE Health and Safety Executive North West is to stage two seminars at Manchester United FC, in partnership with Trafford Council, to focus on the Better Backs campaign: a national campaign to tackle back pain and upper limb disorders at work.
Better Backs aims to reduce the:
incidence of back pain and upper limb disorders caused or made worse by work;
impact of back pain and ULDs;
number of working days lost due to back pain and ULDs.
The event is aimed at the residential and nursing care home sector and delegates will take part in half-day sessions on Thursday, March 6th, at Manchester's Old Trafford stadium.
Peter Lamb (on
Peter.lamb@trafford.gov.uk) is the contact for further information and to make bookings for the free events.
During the campaign HSE will encourage employers and workers to work together to help people return to normal activities.
Chris Quarrie, of HSE's Better Backs Team, says: "The campaign builds on the success of the 2006 campaign, which focused on reducing cases of back pain caused or made worse by work. This year the focus of the campaign will be on prevention of manual handling and ULD related injuries in the workplace. It will also continue to promote the importance of managing back pain more generally by "staying active" and good return to work practices.
"We are keen to see the continuing involvement of businesses, professional bodies, trade unions and employees' representatives, trade associations and the voluntary sector in Better Backs and are thus encouraging people to carry out activities that support the campaign, encouraging employers and workers to work together to help people return to normal activities, including work."
