Tournament is big success
A SUCCESSFUL Ighten Leigh tournament saw the Under 13s Purple take centre stage.
The side scooped top spot in the all-Ighten Leigh final against their White team rivals.
Jordan Burney was the hero as the Purples won 2-0, with Brad Miller also on target.
However, that was to be the hosts' only piece of silverware, despite reaching three other finals – losing each one 1-0.
In the Under 9s, Pendle Forest took the honours thanks to a solitary goal from Alex Curran, while in the Under 10s, Ewan McAdam's strike gave Belvedere Green a 1-0 win.
And in the Under 12s final, Brandon Cocker netted the only goal of the game in extra-time as Barnoldswick Barons took the spoils.
Elsewhere, Caine Byker hit the only goal as Fulledge Colts took the Under 11s title with victory over Bacup Blue.
But the Colts couldn't add to that success, losing the Under 14s final with a 2-1 defeat to Junior Clarets.
Dave Midgeley's goal was in vain for the Colts, as two goals from Arran Wilson won it for the Clarets.
The management committee of Ighten Leigh would like to thank their sponsors, Jay-Care of Burnley, Warburtons Bakery, Asda and Tesco, as well as all players, parents and referees.
Meanwhile, Ighten Leigh are on the lookout for new players, managers, coaches and helpers for next season.
The club boast teams ranging from Under 7s to Under 16s, all of whom play on Sunday mornings.
