Thrilling finale to Barley race
THERE was a thrilling finish to the Barley Fell Race on Friday night as Preston's Marc Hartley won by just six seconds.
Pendle and Burnley Grand Prix title rival Andrew Stubbs was hard on his heels throughout.
But in the end, Hartley reached the line first.
Stubbs was the first veteran home, and the other veteran prizes were won by Jeff Pickup and Paul Walsh.
It was Hartley's third win of the 11 race series, and after the first seven events he holds a clear advantage.
Tracy Mitchell was the first lady home and also won the lady veteran 35 category.
She was almost 40 seconds clear of Trawden's Molly Ralphson, with Sue Burns third and also the first lady veteran 50 runner home.
The other lady veteran prize went to Jayne Butterworth.
It was Mitchell's first race win of the Grand Prix season, and she is now in third place in the overall standings behind Burns and Ralphson.
The Grand Prix continues on Sunday wkith the 25th running of the Burnley Boys' Club Urban Trail.
The event sets off from Barden Track at 11 a.m. as the pursuit of the overall titles in all categories really starts to hot up.
