REVENGE is sweet. And that was certainly the case for St Andrews snooker team who turned the tables on opposition Feniscowles to break a 33-year duck.
The side from Pendle were left heart-broken in last season's North West Small Table 10 Reds Snooker Championship final when Feniscowles overturned a 3-1 deficit to take a 4-3 victory.

However, in the quarter-final stage of this year's event the t
wo sides came head-to-head once more, but it was St Andrews who advanced after a comfortable 4-1 win.

They went on to play Excelsior No 3 in the semi-final at The Claremont Conservative Club in Blackpool.

The Abinger Street side went 3-0 down, but found their form and played superbly to level the match thanks to wins from Wayne Cotterill, Darren Cregg and captain Chris Catlow.

The deciding frame saw Eric Catlow book their place in the final with two superb visits to the table.

In the final against Burnley Road Bowling Club from Accrington, Andy Greenwood won the first frame for St Andrews, followed by team mate Cregg who secured the second frame.

Chris Catlow lost the third frame to make it 2-1, then Cotterill secured another win for the Burnley outfit to give them a 3-1 lead.

Glen Stevenson lost out in the fifth frame as the Accrington side pulled back another frame to make it 3-2 in St Andrews favour.

At this point super sub Jimmy Allan, making his first appearance in the competition, went on and after a nail-biting tussle ended up winning on the pink to a rapturous noisy celebration from the St Andrews supporters.

Skipper Catlow said: "This is a fantastic competition to play in, but most of all to be the first side from the Burnley area in 33 years to win it is quite a superb feeling.

"This also sets a benchmark for all other sides in our area to follow our achievement and try to win it themselves."
