Red Rose call for all-rounder
ALL-rounder Ben Gorton has become the latest Lowerhouse cricketer to earn county recognition.
Skipper of the West End club's Under 11s, as well a the Burnley town team, Gorton has played three times for his county – and ended up on the winning side on each occasion.
In his first game Gorton, who stumps for the Lowerhouse Under 13s, bowled a wicket maiden against Durham and he then featured against Staffordshire in another Red Rose win.
His third game was a trip to Wales.
And his performance behind the wickets earned Gorton the man-of-the-match award from the scorers.
Gorton, who starts studies at Blessed Trinity Catholic Community College after the summer holidays, started his cricket career under Graham Bushell's tutelage at the Thompson Centre.
By the age of six he had progressed to Lowerhouse and started out in the Under 9s.
Since then he has gone on to represent the club at other age levels and, along with his play for the town team, has done more than enough to deserve a county call-up.
