Ladies score big win
IN the Ladies League, Burnley Tennis Club A travelled to Blackburn Northern B and won 7-2.
Burnley's first pair, Donna Stott and Jill Thorpe got off to a bad start in their first rubber, losing sets 3/6, 6/7, but they recovered very well to win their second rubber, 6/3, 6/3.
Burnley's second pairing of Gillian Blackadder and Susan Brown had no trouble at all in their rubbers.
In the first they won 6/1, 6/0 then they followed that up by winning the second 6/2, 6-4.
The Ladies B also had an excellent 7-2 win away to Sunnyhurst A.
Burnley's first pair, Jill Thorpe and Jenny Stewart, lost their first rubber in two very tight sets, 6/7, 5/7, but they managed to turn their fortunes around by winning the second in emphatic style, 6/2, 6/3.
The second pair, Jo Heywood and Alison Padgett were in great form and won both their rubbers in a canter. They won their first rubber, 6/1, 6/2 and the second, 6/1, 6/1.
In the Open League Division One, Burnley A went down to a 1-4 defeat against Blackburn.Northern A.
The team's only success came when Iain Taylor and David Whittaker won their second rubber 7/6, 6-2, after losing their first, 2/6, 1/6.
The only joy Burnley's second pairing of Simon Finnan and Steve Palmer had was taking Northern's second pair to a tie-break in the first set of their second rubber. Finnan and Palmer, lost both rubbers, 0/6, 1/6 and 6/7, 0/6.
In the Open League Division Three, Burnley C moved to joint top of the league after a fine 5-0 win away to Blackburn Northern D.
Ken Greenwood and Steven Blackadder, won both their rubbers, 6/3, 6/3 and 6/1, 6/1.
Danny Taylor and Matt Hargreaves also won both rubbers, 6/2, 6/4 and 6/4, 6/2.
Also in Division Three, it was the same old story for the D team.
This time they went down to a 0-5 home defeat against Parkwood C.
Ethan Herron and Daniel Moorhouse, lost their rubbers, 2/6, 4/6 and 6/7, 3/6. And it was the same for Liam.Taylor and Peter Ashworth as they lost 2/6, 2/6 and 0/6, 2/6.
