THE Tsunami Combat Martial Arts Centre in Burnley recently enjoyed an exchange visit to the Iwama Aikido School in Mauron, Brittany, France.
The local competitors were invited over on a specially-organised intensive weapons training course, using samurai sword and jo staff.

The course lasted four days, training with Jean-Jaques Riou, one of the top French Iwama Aikido Masters, and one of his top students Mike McAna, who previously trained in Tegatani Kempo JuJitsu style in Burnley in the 1970s with Laurence Canavan, under the instruction of Professor John Holt.

Laurence has returned to training at the Tsunami Combat Martial Arts Centre in Hammerton Street, where he met Chris Carter, who had started training around the same time.

The centre have had an open invitation to return to France with a party of students willing to learn new weapon techniques and advanced unarmed combat.

Tsunami Combat Martial Arts Ju Jitsu is open for training on Mondays and Thursdays from 6-30-9-30 p.m., with more information at: www.tsunamijutsuryu.co.uk
