JONATHAN Clare has penned a new contract with Derbyshire until the end of 2009.
The in-form former Burnley all-rounder has been in scintillating form for his county in what is his first full season.
Clare cracked his maiden first-class half century in the first innings of last weeks LV County Championship Second Division clash with Warwickshire, before following it with another in the second innings.
And on his new deal, he said: "Becoming a professional cricketer with Derbyshire was a dream come true and now having the security of at least two full seasons in which to prove myself is great for me.
"I have worked hard at my game since signing the initial contract and I will continue to do so as I aim for a successful career with Derbyshire County Cricket Club.
Clare was originally signed on a one-year deal after his impressive breakthrough at the back end of last season.
But after a promising start to 2008, Head of Cricket John Morris said: "I am delighted that Jonathan has signed a new and extended contract because he is a talented young cricketer and a potential star of the future.
"Having broken into the team and showed so much promise at the end of last season and earned his first professional contract, Jonathan has worked very hard on his game and has earned this extended deal."
The contract for the Lancashire-born youngster also contains the option for a further year into 2010.
Clare has made the best possible start to his first-class career, with 15 wickets at 19.53 and 199 runs at 39.80.
The 21-year-old burst onto the county scene in the penultimate game of last season, recording a debut five-wicket haul against Nottinghamshire.
And he also impressed with a devastating spell of three wickets for one run in the recent LV County Championship match against Essex.
