THE boy is back in town!
As the massive Burnley Brawl 2 event creeps up on us there's one name on everyone's lips – Mick Sinclair.
The Burnley mixed martial arts fighter, brother to UFC's Rob Sinclair, will headline the event at Turf Moor Leisure Centre on Saturday as he prepares to fight an opponent from Ireland.
It was just over six years ago when Mick walked into a gym and saw a guy pounding away at a heavy bag, the sound crashing through and bouncing off every wall. Mick said: "It was one of those bags no one goes on, because it just doesn't move. But when this guy hit it, it moved!"
The guy in question was Michael Bisping. The middleweight UFC fighter from Clitheroe took Mick under his wing and helped him down the road in MMA along with his brother Rob.
Bisping achieved his goal and went on to the UFC and the brothers were left to train themselves; running before work, trying to grab half an hour's training at lunch time, and then training hard in the evenings.
But, since meeting "The Oracle" Gavin Boardman of Predators Gym in Manchester, the Burnley brothers have gone from strength to strength and have taken on some of the country's top MMA fighters – and beaten them!
Mick has been training full time recently due to his good friend and sponsor Glenn Slater Contractors Ltd. He divides his time between Predators Gym and Colin Herren's Kaobon Gym in Liverpool who also have some of the country's top UFC fighters as part of their team.
Mick said: "I want to thank Glenn specially, as without him, I couldn't do this. I'm very lucky to have him help me to follow my dreams and succeed in making it to the big time."
Mick Ashton, Rob Sinclair and all the team down at Sinclair MMA would like to make people aware that on the night they will be collecting for their friend and team-mate Peter Hoyle, who was recently attacked and is unable to work.
Promoter Mick Ashton said: "Peter is part of our team down at Sinclair MMA, he has children and Christmas is coming so we wanted to help him out and we look forward to seeing him when he is well enough."
