BRUISING Burnley Thai Boxing sensation Danny Derbyshire was in impressive form in his latest bout.
He took only one minute and 40 seconds to destroy Leigh's Mark Potter in a one-sided contest.

The fighter landed low kicks and knees before knocking his opponent out with a right cross to the jaw. Derbyshire, who took the fight at short notice, gave away experience against a seasoned pro but looked a class apart from his adversary.

The fight which took place at Lava and Ignite in Preston saw Derbyshire land around 15 big knees to the body of Potter before disengaging and smashing his right hand into Potter's mouth. The referee quickly jumped in to save Potter from any further punishment as he was already out and hanging from the ropes.

Derbyshire who trains at Burnley Thai boxing, is now looking forward to September when he will have one more bout before having a crack at the British title in November. Danny's trainer, Paul Murphy is overjoyed, not only with his charge but with all of his current crop of fighters.

Murphy said: "Danny will be challenging for the title in November but he won't be the only one. At the moment we have a wonderful collection of very classy fighters at the gym and i'm expecting to add at least six more belts to our ever increasing collection by the end of the year.

Our gym has got a magnificent record and all of our fighters are well respected on the circuit. I put our success down to the fact that we train like the Thais do, not only very hard but by concentrating heavily on the clinch.

"At our club we probably spend more time developing our clinch work and to be honest this is where we win a lot of our fights as too many clubs just try and 'kick box'.

Two more fighters are in action next week.

The unbeaten Paul 'The Gent' Connell will be competing at welterweight and the also unbeaten Russ Ball will be competing at Super Middleweight. Both fighters have been training extremely hard with Murphy putting them through their paces six days a week.

The two men will be fighting at Whitworth Civic Hall on Saturday, July 10th and anyone wanting tickets can contact Paul Murphy on 07810 453960.
