THERE are many moments in the Clarets' history that are widely talked about.
Whether it be FA Cup Finals and European adventures, to the last-day Football League survival of 1987.

For some fans, the only images they can draw from those occasions are by conversing with fellow Burnley fans or the written word.

But now, those historic passages in the club's history have been brought to life.

Released last week, "A Pictorial Guide to the Programmes and Ephemera of Burnley Football Club" details all things Claret, from a collector's point of view.

Rather than showing action shots from certain games, it reveals the programmes and ticket stubs from those occasions, as well as pin badges and cigarette cards.

And I can honestly say that, upon picking it up for the first time, I found it so fascinating I couldn't put it down!

From a Stan Ternent Testimonial programme, to one from a time where advertising the subsequent evening's entertainment at the Burnley Palace and Hippodrome, rather than the match set to take place, was more important.

The book is written by father and son duo Lester and Mark Davidson, who between them boast almost a century of Claret memories.

And Peter Shirtcliffe, owner of Burnley Memorabilia Ltd on Standish Street, said: "It's something that you just cannot put down, it's something completely different.

"I know it has taken them a couple of years to write, but it's a look back into the past in a different way.

"It's got a lot more pictorial instances in it than writing, and it details things that people may have not seen before.

"Everyone hears of instances in the club's history, but not many of them have seen it for themselves, but now they can do that."

The book is available from Burnley Memorabilia Ltd, a shop which has come on leaps and bounds since its opening six months ago.

Items ranging from football shirts to autobiographies are flying off the shelves, and Shirtcliffe added: "I just want to thank the general public for visiting the shop as much as they have.

"It's been absolutely brilliant, and we continue to go forward.

"We're still looking for swaps and to buy things from people, as well as sales, and if anyone wants something special or rare scouting, we can do that for them as well.

"If people can look in their lofts and garages for old programmes, as well as newspapers and the like, that's what we are interested in.

"But we've had a great start, it's nice to get that first six months under the belt.

"We have sold things all over the world – Australia, America, Japan, France, Italy, Spain, as well as all over the United Kingdom.

"And that just shows the continued worldwide attraction to Burnley Football Club."

Shirtcliffe is also appealing to local businesses to help him with his bid to raise money for local youngster Joshua Ford.

The nine-year-old is seeking special legs to aid mobility after losing both his legs to the most deadly form of meningitis.

A special flag has been put together by Shirtcliffe, which has been on display at both Turf Moor and numerous away venues on matchdays.

And he added: "The flag has been put together at our own expense to show on Turf Moor, and it has also been to a number of away grounds.

"It's been to Stoke and Blackpool, and it has taken a lot of time to put it together.

"But I have decided to auction it off for Josh Ford, because his story has really touched me.

"I have two young lads myself, and I just felt it was right for me to do something.

"We have tried to auction it off at £499, but we are hoping for a local business to come forward and make us an offer.

"Quality Stitching on Standish Street has also helped a lot in putting the flag together, but the priority now is to raise as much money as possible."

Burnley Memorabilia Ltd is open from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on every weekday bar Tuesdays, when it is closed, as well as between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturdays.

And there is more reason to celebrate, as the shop is implementing a special 25% Easter sale, which started yesterday and is running for the next few weeks.
