A BUBBLY Burnley mum, who has been thrust into the national media spotlight after her appearance on Channel Four's "Wife Swap" show, has hit back at producers who, she says, made out that her children were mini boozers.
Millions of viewers nationwide saw fun-loving Jayne Harris (29) battle with the elements and her "swap" family on the deserted Isle of Lewis while television crews in Burnley captured nine-year-old daughter Sasha helping herself to alcopops during a
sleep-over with friends at her Hargher Street home.
With an interview and pictures lined up for the Sunday Sport newspaper, and talks taking place with other nationals and magazines, Jayne said: "It gets our story straight!"
The scene showing Sasha drinking prompted calls to the police and social services, but an angry Jayne feels her family were misrepresented. "The kids aren't alcoholics like they made out," she stormed.
"I'm annoyed they were making out they were drinking all the time. They have it on very rare occasions but they picked up on it and wanted us to look like we'd given them drink."
Telling how the family had become local celebrities, she said: "Even people we don't know have come up to us. Their reaction has been that it was worthwhile watching television and it was a really good show.
"They really enjoyed watching it and it made them laugh!" A fan of all things pink and fluffy, Jayne worked at Tesco before opening The Big Pink Shop, in Westgate, and said she missed her partner, building supervisor Martin, and children Ightenhill Primary School pupils Max (six) and Sasha while on the snow-covered Scottish island. While Jayne clashed with her swap partner over their "no frills" lifestyle and brought her own inimitable style to the second week of the swap, her counterpart struggled with Jayne's party lifestyle in Burnley and was reduced to tears on several occasions.
Saying the finished programme "was not as bad as she thought it would be", Jayne still blasted programme makers over her two-week filming ordeal, which she has described as "pure hell". "They basically make it out to be a good show to be on but there's a lot of stress," she said.
"You can't wait to be back home – it's a long time to be away from your family."
