A SECOND UFO has been spotted over Burnley.
Last week, the Burnley Express reported sightings of a formation of lights hovering in the sky.

But now there has been a second report of unexplained objects appearing over Burnley.

Mr Eddie Rawlinson captured these images on Saturday, one at 10-08 a.m. and the second at 10-17 a.m., while visiting Worsthorne.

He said: "After the awful weather, for a change we had a clear blue sky and I noticed a bright object travelling from the north in a southerly direction. It wasn't an aeroplane and didn't appear to be a balloon.

"I had my camera with me which has a 40 times zoom lens and managed to get the object on my screen and took a picture. With the lens fully extended and with no tripod it was difficult to keep the bright object in the frame, but I succeeded in getting a few shots.

"It could be they were satellites and on a clear day reflected in the sunlight. I wouldn't like to say. There is movement on the bright lights yet I was shooting at 1/500th of a second so these things in the sky would themselves be moving around at a fair lick."

This sighting follows the reports from Friday, August 15th, when residents were left baffled by a series of unusual lights. Since then, more people have come forward to say they saw the lights and one or two have suggested explanations for the phenomena.

The strange sight was seen over Burnley around 10-40 p.m. and was described by witnesses as up to 20 lights, many of which were in formation. They quickly disappeared. Several people tried to take pictures but were unable to capture the lights.

Before we get the sceptics on regarding the photographs I took of some mysterious object in the sky above Burnley let me give a few details.
My wife and I were visiting her friend in Worsthorne and standing in her garden when I spotted the shining object travelling at a slow speed in a southerly direction. As there was no vapour trail I thought it would be a silver ballooon. Somehow the light was too intense so I focussed my camera on the object while
her friend's husband went in to get his binoculars. I did a couple of shote and was handed the binoculars. Both of us couldn't make out what the object was as it didn't seem to come into focus. Then a second bright object appeared and the same happened with that. The time they passed over is shown on my camera and the pictures are genuine. What was prominent was the spherics around whatever was up there and show on all of my shots. A UFO is was it was through not being identifiable and we thought it may be some way of surveying the land below. It certainly was in the high atmosphere for I took shots later of high flying aircraft to compare size and height.

Someone, somewhere, is laughing at us.

No - make that the whole bl**dy country. If our local newspaper has got nothing to do than run this stupid story two weeks running, then we must be a bunch of credulous f**kwits after all.

replying to Bill and his comment about our local newspaper. Having enormous experience in the newspaper industry I can tell him that newspapers are there to report stories of interest. Obviously this subject has been of interest for years and will continue. Therefore the editor in his judgement has considered it fit for publication, He can't please everyone all the time and bringing a comment from Bill is part of his work, you fell in the trap William.

I saw this object at 9.30 last Saturday over Thornton Rd, Pike Hill, travelling towards Worsthorne. The object was viewed through 8x50 binoculars and was clearly identified as four silver foil balloons fastened vertically (one above the other). The balloons were attached together with a 'silk like' balloon cord.
As they twisted and caught the sun they appeared to be flashing. I have an interest in UFO and would love for this to be a real UFO, but sadly it was not. The left hand photograph on the front of the paper is clearly the same four baloons viewed from below, trailing balloon cord. I live in Bury and came over to Burnley today and looked to see if anyone had reported this object in the papers, since a few people in Pike Hill saw it with me.Yes the object was unusual and unidentifiable to the naked eye,but through binoculars it was clearly 4 silver foil helium balloons tied together.

I saw the lights that were coming over the football ground around 10.40pm that night. I thought we were being invaded, then I remembered a piece in a news clip i read on the website (Fortean Times)and the lights can be explained in the below article from a website: Wedding lanterns,be enlightened:

"Celebrate your wedding by launching these spectacular fire balloons. Engage your guests, and make them part of the festivities.

Watch the enchanting lights ascend into the nights sky, - a sight that will be remembered and talked about by you and your guests for years to come.

Wedding Lanterns are the new version, of the traditional ‘Khoom Fay’ Thai Lantern; these have been popular in Thailand for over 1800 years.

Wedding Lanterns are paper-based mini hot air balloons, fuelled by a solid fuel source (unlike others which require the somewhat dangerous task of soaking a wick in lamp-oil or alcohol before use).
Once lit these float off slowly into the distance. Multiple ‘launches’ create a wonderfully romantic effect which remains visible until the lanterns are a dot in the distance.

An excellent display for use at weddings, parties, bbq’s or any other get-together, a very unusual alternative/complement to a firework display (much kinder on the ears too). Here are your UFO's.

The photographs, Andrew, were taken at 10.07am and 10.11am as recorded on my Canon Power Shot SX100 and were in sight for a passing time of about five minutes. Your explanation is reasonable although when looked at through our binoculars they appeared to be out of focus for some reason.
As you are interested in such matters maybe you could say what the balloons may have been used for as they were exceedingly high and would not be the ordinary balloons one sees being sent skywards by children...
Also did you see the second one travelling south?
