POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a man threatened to stab a young woman if she did not give him money and then burst into tears when she challenged him.
The woman (24) was walking home from a trip to the cinema along Spring Hill Road, Burnley, at 10-30 p.m. last Friday when she was approached by the man, who demanded cash.

But when she questioned him, he began to cry saying he desperately needed money. The woman gave him £5.60 and he made off.

Police are now asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or for the man himself to come forward.

The man, thought to be around 37 and 5ft. 9in. tall, is white, was wearing black tracksuit trousers, white trainers and a beige coloured jacket with the hood up.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Burnley police on 425001 or Crimestoppers, in confidence, on 0800 555 111.
