POLICE have issued a stern warning to mud-slinging youths in Brunshaw who have been using broken drainpipes to throw debris at people's homes.

The majority of the drain pipes have been stolen from elderly residents' properties. Neighbourhood police said the acts of criminal damage are not only causing distress to residents but also a great deal of expense.

PCSO Emma Harrison said: "This sort of behaviour is not only anti-social but can also have criminal consequences. By removing drainpipes from people's houses the youths responsible are committing the offence of criminal damage which could result in either an on-the-spot fine of £80 or being arrested. In addition, any damage caused to houses as a result of the mud slinging would also carry the same penalties."

PC Janet Cowley said: "We will be taking action against those youths who continue to cause anti-social behaviour and criminal damage in the Brunshaw area. This sort of behaviour is not acceptable and will not be tolerated.

"We will be talking to the affected residents and marking drain pipes with anti-vandal paint to stop this from re-occurring. The markings will also help identify the youths responsible as the paint will remain on their clothing."

Police ask residents of Brunshaw to help them clamp down on this type of unruly behaviour and bring those responsible to task. If anyone has any information relating to these incidents they can contact PC Cowley on 07903 978915 or PCSO Harrison on 07984 316852, or email them at janet.cowley@lancashire.pnn.police.uk or emma.harrison@lancashire.pnn.police.uk
