FIRE-FIGHTERS battled for five hours to put out a blaze which threatened to engulf a Burnley mill.
The fire started in an outhouse at Pentridge Mill in Holmes Street at 8-20 p.m. on Monday and a total of seven fire crews from Burnley, Padiham, Nelson and Accrington were called to the scene.
Asbestos was found in the roof of the building after the fire, and the hazardous materials unit were called out to make it safe. The main body of the mill was not damaged.
Jets, hose reels and breathing apparatus were used to extinguish the blaze, which damaged the roof and the contents of the unit, which stored shoes and cardboard.
The aerial ladder was also used to stop the fire spreading. The blaze is thought to be deliberate and both police and fire-fighters are investigating.
