AN inquest into the death of a Burnley man whose body was found below cliffs in East Yorkshire in September has recorded an open verdict.

Mr Richard Sheard (39), of Felix Street, known to friends as Ricky, had travelled to Flamborough Head near Bridlington on September 21st.

Humberside Police received a call from coastguards at 11-14 a.m. informing them a rucksack had been found on the cliff-top by a member of the public.

Police rushed to the scene and searched the area at the bottom of the cliff where they found Mr Sheard's body.

Mr Sheard's car, a silver-coloured Vauxhall Astra, was found nearby.

The open verdict was recorded by coroner Mr Geoffrey Saul at Hull and East Riding Coroners' Court.

Mr Sheard was well-known on Burnley's entertainment circuit and used the stage name Ricky Dene to perform songs from the 1950s and 1960s.

He left wife Tracy, children Melissa, Chris and Amy, and sisters Julie, Catherine and Paula.
