AN inquest has been opened and adjourned into the death of Burnley teenager Harrison Hartley who lost his fight for life after being hit by a car in the fast lane of the M65.

Popular Harrison (14) was struck in the eastb
ound carriageway just before junction 10, close to Gannow Top, at 6-15 p.m. last Thursday, March 1st, and was hurled into the central reservation.

Tributes to the Hameldon Community College pupil, of Harling Street, Rosegrove, have been flooding in to the Express's online book of condolence since his death on Saturday evening.

It is thought he was trying to retrieve a football when he was hit and the motorway was closed for around four hours following the accident. Harrison was taken to Burnley General Hospital and then the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital, at Pendlebury, with serious head and internal injuries.

He lost his life at 7-55 p.m. on Saturday, in the intensive care unit of the hospital and a post-mortem examination was carried out which found the cause of death consistent with multiple injuries.

Further investigations are now being carried out into the accident and the inquest is due to be heard on June 5th.

Following his wishes, Harrison's family agreed to donate several organs in the hope that other people may be given the gift of life following his death, and also issued a warning to other youngsters not to play on motorways.

He leaves his mum, Donna Bennett, dad Ken Hartley and sister, Taina Hartley.

See Friday's Express for more moving tributes to the fun-loving teenager and the latest from the police investigation into the incident.
