VOLUNTEERS from the Howard Street Community Garden, Burnley, got the chance to mix with royalty when they attended a reception hosted by the Prince of Wales.
The event was organised by charity Age Concern to celebrate its work in bringing people of different generations together through schemes like the community garden. Celebrities Barbara Windsor, Gloria Hunniford, Fiona Phillips and Tess Daly were also guests at the Clarence House reception.
Mr Gordon Lishman, director general of Age Concern, said: "Bringing different generations together benefits people of all ages. By sharing experiences, knowledge, skills and a good deal of laughter, younger and older people learn about each other and how much they can contribute to their family lives and their communities."
The Community Garden, run in conjunction with East Lancashire Primary Care Trust, is open to everyone and a regular gardening group meets every Wednesday between 10 a.m. and noon.
