AN angry fire chief has blasted yobs who attacked a fire-fighter with a plank of burning wood.
The appalling incident happened when fire-fighters were putting out a deliberate bonfire on Monday evening during a chaotic 45 minutes where they also had to deal with two hoax calls and a barbecue reported as a house fire.

With one crew training in Bacup resources were stretched thin and watch manager Pete Ashworth said their situation was made even more dangerous by hoax calls.

"We only had one crew covering Burnley on Monday and because of these incidents we were called on lives were put at risk," he said. "Even the fire-fighters are at risk at getting injured now through the needless actions of others."
