YOBS pelted firefighters with stones and bottles in a stand-off in Lanehead.
The fire crews were called to a house in Ribble Avenue where a lit firework had been posted through the letterbox.
But as they arrived a gang of thugs targeted them with a barrage of missiles and abuse.
Watch manager Pete Ashworth, of Burnley Fire Station, said that police were called out in a bid to calm the situation and allow the firefighters to deal with the incident. No one was hurt, but there was significant damage to a fire engine.
Mr Ashworth said that there have been problems recently in the area and firefighters would now work with police to try to resolve matters.
He added that the blaze, at 11-50 p.m. on Friday, was out when they got there. The firework had caused smoke damage to the hallway of the house, where a mum and three children had been sleeping.
Fire crews were at the incident for more than three hours.
They also attended a rubbish fire in Heather Bank at 11-10 p.m., a rubbish fire at Blessed Trinity RC College at 11-40 p.m. and a fire in a skip at Burnley Light Engineering in Morse Street at 5-30 a.m.

It really is time that the Fire Brigade were allowed to spray these miscreants with dye or smart water. This will surely ensure that these people can be punished and made an example of. Video cameras or the appliances (if not already fitted) should also prove invaluable.

the police and calico know who these scum bags are they all live on the estate with their anti social unemployed drunken drugged up parents all on housing benefit and all that goes with it.The problem for calico is if they evict the scum they will be a lot of empty properties which no housing association wants because in their eyes a bad tennant is better than no tennant. No tennant = no money so with that the hard working decent law abiding tennants of this estate will just have to carry on living in the sewer part of lanehead.just one more thing this is only the latest trouble to happen up here, all summer there has been anti social and violent behaviour by the so called seggy crew and the police and calico havent evicted one tennent,so this weekend there will proberbly be more of the same
